Leaked sex tape: Anger in Tamale over ‘disrespectful’ CID letter to chief for flogging lovers

There is growing anger among residents of the Tamale Metropolis following a letter by the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for the Dakpema of Tamale, Naa Bawa Fuseini to produce his guards who flogged lovers over a leaked tape.

Facebook since the letter was leaked, has been awash with criticisms of the contents which residents say smacks of gross disrespect to the revered chief who was only playing fatherly role as part of measures to instil discipline.

Whereas sections are calling on the chief to ignore the letter and concentrate on his traditional duties, others are urging him to demand an unqualified apology from the Ghana Police Service over the insulting letter.

“If we allow the police have their way in the name of Human Rights, our society is doomed”, a resident said revealed.

“We all have a responsibility to support the chief who has taken the bold step to arrest these social vices. We cannot allow him to fight this alone. Our silence on this matter will be a betrayal”, he added.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service officially wrote to the Dakpema of Tamale, Naa Bawa Fuseini to produce suspects who flogged two lovers in a leaked tape.

An invitation letter from the Northern Regional CID signed by one Superintendent K. Otuo Acheampong and sighted by MyNewsGh.com reads “Criminal investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service presents its compliments to Dakpema and and the entire Dakpema Palace and assures you of our highest assurance.

The attention of the Northern Regional Police Command has been drawn to a video on human rights abuses circulating on social media, the said video, a young man and a lady werre being subjected to human rights abuses by caning them openly at the Dakpema Palace. The purported abuses took place on Friday, 16th August 2019.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the region has been directed to initiate criminal investigations into the act.

The Northern Regional Police Command respectfully request that the Dakpema Palace releases those who were involved in the whipping. We further request that the palace assist the Police in identifying those who were flogged to assist with the investigation. Your early response and usual co-operation is highly anticipated, please”

It would be recalled that the two lovers in a recently leaked tape were flogged 12 strokes of canes at the palace of the chief to serve as a deterrent to others, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed.

According palace spokesperson, Malgu Naa Alhaji Majeed the accused persons who have brought the name of the ancient town into disrepute, were each subjected to twelve strokes of canes by palace guards on the orders of the chief.

They were also required to produce two rams and some fowls from for the pacification of the gods in view of what the chief termed as sacrilegious act.

Malgu Naa justified the action of the chief saying “Our intention is to prevent these behaviors among the young people in the city. We are going to continue with this action and any videos that we see and we think that it is not healthy for public consumption, we will look for such persons and punish them severely”
