Nat’l security interdicts officer who assaulted a soldier

Upon the instructions of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Ministry responsible for National Security has interdicted, with immediate effect, Mr Gerard Nana Osei-Tutu, an official of the Bureau of National Communications of the National Security Council Secretariat for attacking a soldier.

A statement released by the Ministry of Information and signed by the sector Minister, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said the President was dismayed with the report of the incident.

The statement said: “The military constitutes a key layer in the country’s security architecture. Any infringement on the institution and its officers will not be tolerated.”

A full investigation has commenced into the incident.

Background

In a video gone viral on social media, the military officer is seen being whisked from his car in heavy traffic into another vehicle over his alleged refusal to give way to the national security operatives who were blaring their siren at motorists to allow them unhindered passage.

According to the Chronicle newspaper, the officer was assaulted by the National Security operatives before being taken to the Michel Camp military base.
