‘Restore our power, we’ll be of good behaviour’ – Kokrobite residents beg PDS

The Krokrobite traditional council in the Ga South Municipality is pleading with the Power Distribution Service, PDS, to restore power in the Kokrobite township.

The community has not had power for nearly two weeks, after an employee of PDS who had gone to fix their power problem, was inflicted with cutlass wounds by a resident.

Residents suspect that they are being punished by PDS over the attack on the employee.

According to the Traditional Council, they are putting measures in place to help the police apprehend the culprit of the attack.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, the Chief of Kokrobite, Nii Ayinsah Sasraku III, noted that the Council has written officially to PDS to plead and assure it of the safety of its staff in the area.

“It’s almost two weeks now and the people in my neighbourhood are suffering. One person should not create a problem for the community to suffer. So, we are very serious in getting this [gentleman who committed the offence] to be dealt with according to the law.”

“My subjects and the assemblyman are working hand in hand to commit ourselves that such a thing like that will never happen again so that we have the problem solved once and for all. That is the request from PDS and we have signed a bond of good behaviour. So, we are expecting a reply from them. So we are appealing to the authorities to get our power resolved”, he added.

Attack

39-year, Gershon Asiedu, a staff of PDS was inflicted with cutlass wounds while working with his colleagues to restore power supply to some customers in the area.

He was then sent to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to undergone surgery and received additional treatment there.

A formal complaint was subsequently made to the Kokrobite Police Station.

The Police are still working with the PDS Ghana Limited and the local authorities to identify and arrest a middle-aged man who reportedly committed the crime.

Don’t attack our field workers – PDS appeals to Ghanaians

Earlier, PDS urged the public to desist from attacking its workers when they are on official duties.

The Public Relations Officer for the Accra West region of the PDS, Fred Baimbill-Johnson in a Citi News interview urged the public to collaborate with staff of the power company.

“To us, what we are calling for is more collaboration. We’re asking the public to realize that we will want them to have more power. Such instances make it difficult for our team to go into such communities to work”, he added.
