A truck transporting paints bursts into flames on Accra to Kumasi Highway in a bizarre accident.

The accident occurred on Akyem Aboabo near Bunso stretch of the Accra to Kumasi highway Saturday evening around 4:50pm.

The accident, according to eyewitnesses occurred when the speeding truck from Accra heading towards Kumasi burst a tyre and subsequently crashed on the road before being gutted by fire.

The driver and mate however managed to escape.

The accident resulted in road blockage creating gridlock for about four hours.

The situation forced vehicles from Kumasi direction towards Accra to take a U-turn to Koforidua and Kibi to continue their journey while those from Accra direction towards Kumasi had to use the Kibi road to reach Bunso junction to continue their journey.

Fire Service officials who arrived at the scene could not extinguish the fire due to the highly inflammable substance of the paint.
