GES shifts reopening for SHS 3 students to August 25

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has shifted the reopening of school for third-year Senior High School (SHS) students from Monday, August 19 to Sunday, August 25, 2019.

A statement issued on Friday and signed by the Director-General of the GES, Prof Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, said the new date was arrived at after a joint meeting of stakeholders involving management of the GES, Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), Association of Principals of Technical Institutions (APTI) and the Labour Unions in the Pre-Tertiary Education Service.

It explained that it was expected that the new date would enable parents and students, teachers and education workers to prepare adequately for the reopening of the new academic year.

“It was concluded that the reopening of schools for SHS 3 on the 19th of August, 2019, be shifted to Sunday, 25th August, 2019,” the statement said.

“This means that form 3 students are to report for the 1st Semester 2019/2020 academic year on Sunday, 25th August 2019 for academic work to begin on Monday, 26th August 2019,” it added.
