Saeed Adam Banda (PhD), the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), an educationist and publisher for SuccessLink publications, has urged Ghanaians, especially learners and facilitators to cultivate the habit of reading to promote literacy in Ghana.
He reaffirmed the importance of education as a driving tool for economic growth and social progress by equipping reading to broaden minds and make creativity as well.
He made this appeal in an exclusive interview on Fabea FM with Apiah-Kubi at the Ghana International Book Fair which took place in Tamale, Northern Region of Ghana.
He disclosed that the book fair aligns with World Book and Copyright Day celebrations, as designated by UNESCO to be celebrated annually on April 23rd.
Saeed Adam Banda (PhD)added that reading and writing empowers to transform a student’s life by opening new doors, world, ideas, and perspectives.
“Reading develops language skills and improves comprehensive skills for academic success”, he stated.
He added that the day aims to celebrate literature and protect intellectual property rights.
The fair’s theme, “Read your way: Celebrating Accessible Literature,” highlights the importance of inclusive publishing.
Saeed Adam Banda (PhD) reiterated that the book industry serves as a significant tool for the country’s cultural heritage and development of the educational system.
Saeed Adam Banda (PhD) emphasized that reading develops minds and gives excessive knowledge and lessons in life, saying that the book fair focuses on discussing strategies to make the future of book publishing and reading meaningful and sustainable.
“The three-day Fair will feature book exhibitions from many publishing organizations, reading competitions, seminars, and poetry contests, all maintaining high credible editorial standards”, he stated in the exclusive interview with Apiah-Kubi.
When asked about the challenges of reading in Ghana, Saeed Adam Banda (PhD) mentioned that publishing has changed in recent times, and one of the most significant challenges is the unavailability of textbooks after the implementation of new curriculums.
He pleaded with the government to collaborate with writers in the country to develop more textbooks and ensure a proactive supply of requisite textbooks to raise the standard of education in the country.
