Ghana, Japan strengthen ties on agribusiness and 24-Hour economy: Trade Minister, GRATIS Foundation CEO, meets Japanese Ambassador

The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, together with the CEO of GRATIS Foundation and Bono East Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Isaac Adaebsah, have held a high-level meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Hiroshi Yoshimoto, and his delegation.

The meeting, was part of a strategic move by the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry to deepen economic cooperation between Ghana and Japan. The meeting, which focused on advancing collaboration in agribusiness and Ghana’s ambitious 24-hour economy initiative, emphasized the shared commitment of both countries to sustainable development and industrial transformation.

Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Techiman North, explained the importance of forging strong international relationships that can contribute to the government’s vision of a vibrant 24-hour economy. She welcomed the interest of the Japanese government and expressed confidence in the prospects of a deepened bilateral relationship that leverages Japan’s technological expertise and Ghana’s industrial potential.

Dr. Isaac Adaebsah, representing the GRATIS Foundation, explained the Foundation’s pivotal role in promoting emerging technologies in the agro-processing industry. According to him, the Foundation’s long-term vision is to support Ghana’s transition from a primarily agricultural economy to a second agricultural economy, one that not only drives food production but also facilitates large-scale industrial processing to boost socio-economic growth.

He further explained that such partnerships are critical to building resilience in Ghana’s economy and enhancing innovation in agribusiness across Africa.

H.E. Hiroshi Yoshimoto, also expressed Japan’s readiness to explore opportunities for cooperation, especially in sectors that support inclusive and sustainable growth. He praised Ghana for its commitment to transforming its economy and pledged Japan’s continued support.
