Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum the Minister of Education has scolded former president John Mahama over his latest comment suggesting Ghana is no longer taking part in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Mahama recently chastised the government for pulling Ghana out of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) system.
According to the former president, the action by the government has led to fallen standards by the Ghanaian students in the WASSCE. Contrary to former President Mahama’s assertion, Ghana continues to write and excel in WASSCE.
Reacting to the development on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday(10 January), Adutwum said the country’s future is doomed, if Mahama is voted back into power.
“It is unfortunate, I am surprised, has he been Vice President before, did he sit in cabinet to be briefed? Our country’s future will be in dangerous hands if Mahama gets close to the presidency, he will destroy this country’s educational system,” he said.
“It is so easy for him to call the West African Examination Council (WAEC)and ask them before going to make such a comment, without a briefing from WAEC, he is so wrong I can’t even describe it.”
“Maybe he is not reading the newspapers, if he is, he would have heard or read that last year the top three students on WASCCE, two of them were from St James SHS, so if we are not doing the same exams, how did they select two students from Ghana as the top most,” Adutwum added.
