Ghana’s Embassy In South Africa Urged To Support Undocumented Ghanaian Journalists In SA To Promote Gov’t Policies

The Chief Executive Officer (C. E. O) of South Africa – based media platforms “Press Media Network’s”, Mr. Solomon Ogyem has passionately appealed to the Ghana’s Embassy in South Africa to help undocumented Ghanaian journalists in the country to acquire proper documents to stay in the country.

According to him, there are professional and potential journalists in South Africa who can sell the policies of the government of Ghana to Ghanaian nationals and other foreigners to woo investors in Ghana but they cannot exploit due to lack of proper documentation.

“ I would like to use this opportunity to appeal to the High Commissioner of Ghana to South Africa, His Excellency George Ayisi Boateng and the mission to consider Ghanaian journalists in South Africa to get document to stay in the country to promote Ghana’s agenda” he appealed.

The young Ghanaian entrepreneur in South Africa, Solomon Ogyem made this appeal on Saturday, 9th November, 2019 when he delivering a speech during the launching of “Press Media Network’s” at the church of Pentecost in Pretoria, Sunnyside.

Press Media Network’s consist of two websites; www.thepressradio.com and www.ghanaweb.mobi and online radio-station PRESS RADIO located at Carolina in the Mpumalanga province in the Republic of South Africa (RSA).

Mission

The core mission is to promote Ghana’s agenda in South Africa and the welfare of Ghanaian nationals in South Africa and beyond.

Vision

The vision of this media platform is to ensure that concerns of Ghanaian citizens in South Africa will be addressed and also benefited from the policies of the government of Ghana.

He also called on the mission to establish a fund to finance the medical and legal fees of Ghanaian journalists in South Africa.

He said rising spate of attacks on journalists in many countries can happen to colleagues in SA hence the need for the establishment of a special fund to support them.

Mr. Ogyem therefore urged African journalists to be circumspect in their reportage to promote peace and stability in the region.

“I will also advice you against writing contents that will give room for hate speech. In other to protect the standard of the profession, I will urged the media to place premium on research and thorough investigation in the process of gathering and dissemination of information to avoid propagating false and damaging information to the public”. He said.

Adding that, “the dissemination of false information was inimical to the growth and integrity of the journalism profession, particularly with growing competition from social media”.
