Officials of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region have arrested 26 Nigeriens for entering the country through unapproved routes.
The Niger Nationals include 24 males, 2 females aged between 23 and 58 years and a two-year-old boy.
Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) Emmanuel Addai, in charge of operations and enforcement at the Wenchi Municipal Command in an interview with Radio West Africa’s Nana Anfreh Damanta said the immigrants were all traders travelling from Cote d’ Ivoire to Techiman the Bono East Regional Capital.
The Nigeriens were on board a 207 bus with registration number GR 8278 – Z.
He indicated that the immigrants have breached Ghana’s immigration laws and therefore would be sent back to Sampa to assist in investigations on how they entered the country adding that they will be screened for COVID-19 after which they will be repatriated.
He used the opportunity to advise drivers and other Ghanaians not to facilitate the movement of foreigners into the country through these unapproved.
