GNPC operates as political institution – GASSOP Oil boss

The Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) will continue to be afflicted with political interests and interference until non-partisan managers are appointed to lead it, the Chief Executive Officer of GASSOP Oil Kojo Poku has observed.

According to him, GNPC will not be able to operate and function like other global giants in the petroleum sector because there is no good corporate governance at the firm.

“GNPC is run as a political institution. Government owns 100% shares in GNPC. As long as the Chairman of the NPP is the Chairman of the board we should know everything will be political. I have always asked why we have the Chairman of the GNPC Board as the Chairman of the NPP.

“GNPC is not anywhere close to Petronas or any of the big oil companies. Corporate Governance is what underpins most organizations. In most organizations in Ghana that is missing,” he told Morning Starr host Francis Abban Wednesday.

The GNPC’s expenditure has come under scrutiny after its budget for corporate social responsibilities was leaked.

As part of the donations by the GNPC, an amount of 400, 000.00 was also donated to the 2019 Damba festival while an amount of 50, 000.00 was also donated to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).

The Ghana Boxing Association also received a donation worth 30, 000.00 dollars. The Rebecca Foundation also received an amount of 120, 000.00 from the GNPC.

The Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) also got a donation of 550, 000.00 Ghana cedis.
