The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has predicted that the five member committee set to lead the fight against illegal mining has woefully failed in advance.
The NDC further alleged that some Government officials are actively involved in Galamsey activities and this will compromise the work of the military and the police.
The NDC therefore urged Ghanaians not to expect the government to fight his own officials.
According to Robert Sosu, a member of the NDC national communication team, these officials are actively involved in galamsey activities and due to their involvement, are unable to take the necessary actions to effectively combat the problem.
Addressing the media today at Korley Klotey constituency, Mr. Robert Sosu referenced various media reports that have exposed some government officials from the NPP in illegal mining activities, questioning how the government could grant concessions to individuals who form companies and engage in mining within forest reserves.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has set up a five-member ad hoc ministerial committee to engage stakeholders to assess the government’s efforts to deal with illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.
Galamsey has gained notoriety in recent times, with many unions and associations demanding that President Akufo-Addo declare a state of emergency to provide ample time to deal with the menace.
