The government has released GHS465 million to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department for onward disbursement to the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
According to the Finance Ministry, an amount of GHS200 million was released on Monday, 11 November 2019 with the remaining GHS265 million was expected to have been released on Tuesday, 12 November 2019 as the 2019 second-quarter payment for the Common Fund.
This was revealed by a Deputy Minister of Finance Abena Osei-Asare after the ministry, together with the Common Fund Administrator, Irene Naa Torshie Addo, appeared before Parliament to answer questions relating to the delay in the release of funds to the DACF.
This follows some agitations by Minority MPs who threatened to boycott the approval of the government’s 2020 budget statement on Wednesday, 13 November 2019 if the government failed to release the full complement of funds to them.
Speaking to Class News after meeting Parliament, Osei-Asare said the government will ensure the timely release of funds to the assemblies for development in the coming years.
