Gov’t releases over GHC49m to settle outstanding grant for teachers

The Finance ministry has released over forty-nine  million cedis to the Ghana Education Service for the payment of delayed transfer grant and other outstanding allowances to teachers in the country.

It comes after the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT)  declared strike in six regions over poor condition of service.

GNAT’s action comes on the heels of re-opening of schools today across the country and a similar strike declared by the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) over same demands.

NAGRAT is on strike over the newly introduced Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) acquired by the Public Services Commission, unpaid allowances and delayed promotions among others.

In the case of GNAT, six out of the 10 regional branches of the Association say they are staying off the classrooms over the inability of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to resolve their challenges.

The strike which takes effect today, September 10, 2019 is happening in Northern, Upper west, East, Volta, Central and Greater Accra regions.
