GPRTU temporarily suspends implementation of proposed 20% upward adjustment in transport fares

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has temporarily suspended the implementation of the proposed 20% upward adjustment in transport fares.

The GPRTU in a statement said, the suspension is to engage in a stakeholder consultation with the Ministry of Transport on 23 January 2024.

Earlier, the GPRTU announced plans for a fare increment of up to 20%, effective from 24 January 2024, citing the escalating fuel prices.

But the Transport Ministry urged the public to disregard any purported 20% increase in transport fares.

The ministry said, there has not been any negotiation with the transport operators for a review of transport fares.
