GRA tax filing system digitised with ITaps

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced a digital tax filing platform that will now allow Ghanaians to file their tax returns online with the Authority’s new app, Integrated Tax Application Preparation System (iTaPS).

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen programme, Wednesday, the Principal Revenue Officer at GRA, Mr Alex Oppong-Poku explained that the online application was to enable taxpayers to prepare, apply and receive GRA services online.

“We want to ensure accountability and improve tax payment in Ghana so, with ITaps, tax filing has now become convenient, easy and assessable for individuals and companies with the help of an internet connection. You can use your visa cards or mobile money to pay online,” he stated.

There are penalties and interest that accrue when taxpayers fail to pay taxes at the appropriate time but both businesses and individuals have complained about the convenience of payment.

As a result, Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, challenged Ghana’s tax administration, the GRA to come up with a simplified electronic system that will enable taxpayers to file their tax returns, using their phones or computers at their convenience.

The app allows access to TAX Clearance Certificate (e-TCC) as well as Withholding Tax Credit Certificate (e-Tax Credit) and VAT Withholding Tax Credit Certificate (e-VAT Credit)

ITaPS also seeks to assist taxpayers to keep the records required to fulfil their tax obligations, with the GRA also aiming to improve its performance of Tax Administration Diagnostic Tools (TADAT) ranking under voluntary compliance.
