Hazard retires from international football after disappointing World Cup campaign

Belgium captain Eden Hazard has announced his retirement from international football at age 31.

The Real Madrid forward’s decision is reportedly influenced by Belgium’s disastrous campaign at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Red Devils who were touted by many as one of the tournament’s favourites failed to progress from the group stage as they finished in third place behind Morocco and Croatia in Group F.

In a statement shared via his Instagram page, the ex-Chelsea forward said:

“A page turns today… Thank you for your love. Thank you for your unparalleled support. Thank you for all this happiness shared since 2008. I have decided to put an end to my international career. The succession is ready. I will miss you….”

Hazard won 126 caps for Belgium from 2008 to 2022. He managed 33 goals for the National team, as per GOAL.
