Liverpool FC head coach Arne Slot has defended German midfielder in the face of the recently recruited player’s struggles since joining the club.
Wirtz joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen this off-season for a whopping 100 million pounds with 16 million pounds in potential add-ons.
However, the 22 year old has played 13 games in all competitions but has three assists and zero goals and has come under immense pressure.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League tie against Real Madrid on Tuesday, November 4 at 20:00 GMT, Arne Slot said that despite the lack of goals, Wirtz has brought to Liverpool what they expected.
“For a player to come from a different league, which is a very good league but the Premier League is a bit more intense.”
“He-Florian Wirtz- has had an impact in many games but he has been unlucky with the end product… He has brought what we expected, a player that can contribute a lot for the team, he will have his goals as well” Slot said according to the BBC.
