Healthy Prevention Tips For Tetanus (Lockjaw) You Should Learn About

Tetanus is an infection caused by bacteria called Clostridium tetani. When these bacteria enter the body, they produce a toxin that affects painful muscle contractions. As recommended by Healthline, I drafted out healthy tips on how you can tackle or prevent tetanus before it worsens.

1. The viral disease occurs mostly when you get infected after getting a cut beneath or around your foot. Carrying out vaccination is one major tip that can help prevent tetanus infections, but only if you receive your booster shots on schedule given to you by the physician attending to you. This vaccine can be given to children as part of the diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis shot, also called the DTap shot.

2. While in adults, they would need a booster vaccine called the Td vaccine (for tetanus and diphtheria) every 10 years. You are advised to always run a check with your doctor to know your tetanus vaccine state.

3. Another way of preventing tetanus is by proper treatment and cleaning of wounds to help prevent the infection. If an individual gets injured outside and the injury has made contact with soil, or any object that has rusted like a nail, call your healthcare provider and ask about your risk of tetanus.
