Hearts supporters threaten Togbe Afede, other board members

Board chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak, Togbe Afede risks incurring the wrath of the club’s fans if he orders the removal of interim coach Edward Nii Odoom.

Odoom’s future with the club has become a subject of concern following a protest by a section of the fans after their victory of Bechem United last Sunday.

The fans after the match expressed their anger with the coach’s tactics and substitution which in their wisdom nearly cost the team three points on Sunday.

But on Asempa FM this morning, some of the fans accused the club’s management of instigating the verbal attack on the coach.

They criticized the management led by Togbe Afede for not investing in good players and also not supporting the coach.

The fans in their reaction to a revelation by former Kotoko coach Isaac Opeele Boateng about the bad conditions under which Odoom is doing his job vilified the management.

One fan said “When we take a new coach, we should give him all the support he needs. Odoom has done really well and has not lost an away game so why should we sack him? Togbe and his people should back him”.

Another said “Our leaders are not serious one bit. We gave the team to Kim Grant for more than one year, what did he do. He wasted our time. If they give Odoom all the support he will do well. Our leaders should be serious and give him everything he wants”.

One of the supporters dared the club’s board to sack the coach, threatening to take their lives should relieve Odoom of his role.

“Our leaders, we will curse them if they sack this coach. Whenever the club starts getting good results then they will sack the coach. God will punish all of them. We know where they live, if they misbehave, we will kill them”.

He was however rebuked by the host, Kojo Mensah Moshosho who cautioned him against making such pronouncements.

Since his appointment in December, Odoom has amassed fifteen points for Hearts of Oak.

He reportedly plays the dual role of a coach to their youth team Auroras and the first team – Hearts of Oak.

According to reports, Odoom who is on a GHC5,000 monthly salary has no office to operate and also without an assistant coach.
