There was heavy security at Ghana’s Paga border with Burkina Faso Tuesday evening, following a robbery incident targeting traders at a black market in Dakola near the latter’s border.
“Personnel of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) and soldiers from the Airborne Force airlifted from Tamale, all of Operation Conquer Fist, were at the Paga border town in numbers after Tuesday morning’s robbery incident”.
They were there to ensure the safety of the people and property, authorities told GhanaWeb.
Fear engulfed the border after six armed men attacked traders at a black market and made away with money in different currencies. Though nobody was hurt, the incident has left the people terrified as this is the second time a robbery of same nature, targeted at the black market traders, happened there.
Authorities have asked residents and traders not to panic, adding talks are in progress between the security agencies from both countries to find solution to the recurrent incident.
Two Burkinabe national members of the syndicate have so far been arrested and handed over to Burkina Faso authorities for further action. Search has intensified for the rest of the robbers that got away.
