Here’s how much the President is donating to the Coronavirus fund

President Akufo-Addo has announced the creation of a COVID-19 Fund with three months of his salary as a seed fund support.

According to him, the fund will serve as a support system for the well-being of individuals who will be adversely affected by the novel Coronavirus pandemic.

But how much exactly of the president’s salary will go into the COVID-19 fund?

GhanaWeb’s research revealed that the President earns a monthly salary of GH¢25,000 and annually earns GH¢300,000 a year (US$75,000), according to public records.

However, a breakdown of that means the President earns GH¢1,153.85 on a daily, GH¢5,769.23 per week, GH¢25,000 per month and GH¢300,000 a year.

The President will therefore give away GH¢75,000 of his next three months’ salary for April, May and June to support that fund.

He adds that the fund will be managed by an independent board of trustees and chaired by former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo.

Public contributions can also be made to the fund in support of individuals who will be struck by the outbreak of the virus.

“I am announcing tonight the establishment of a COVID-19 Fund to be managed by an independent board of trustees and chaired by former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, to receive contributions and donations from the public to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable. I have directed the Comptroller and Accountant General to pay my next three months’ salary, i.e. April, May and June, into this Fund,” he said.

President Nana Akufo-Addo in a broadcast last night, Friday March 27, announced a partial lock-down of some parts of the country for two weeks in a bid to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
