Houses set on fire in Bolga again over chieftaincy dispute

Some residents of Bolgatanga have been rendered homeless after their houses were set ablaze in the latest clash said to be related to a longstanding chieftaincy dispute between two factions in the municipality.

Police and military personnel are on patrols in the troubled community as the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) prepares to meet Monday over the development.

Whilst security commanders are yet to confirm what led to the clash, some patchy details suggesting it was triggered by an argument have emerged.

Several lives have been lost and belongings worth millions of Ghana cedis destroyed so far since the rivalry between the two factions resurfaced in 2015 after the demise of the former Paramount Chief of Bolgatanga, Naba Martin Adongo Abilba III, in 2013.
