Hundreds of Dutch, EU citizens repatriated from Ghana

Some citizens from the Netherlands and some EU countries have been safely repatriated to their various home countries amidst the scourge of the coronavirus, a tweet from the Dutch embassy in Ghana has confirmed.

The flight which took off from the Kotoka International Airport, Friday afternoon was arranged by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs with support from Ghanaian authorities.

According to the tweet, hundreds of these foreigners who were aboard the KLM flight have been safely reunited with their families.

The tweet reads in part; “A special KLM repatriation flight, arranged in cooperation with the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took off from Kotoka International Airport this afternoon, bringing hundreds of Dutch and EU citizens back home to join their loved ones.”

The Information Minister had earlier explained during the Minister’s press briefing Friday, April 3, 2020, in Accra that repatriating foreigners who have been caught up in the country due to the global response to coronavirus will be duly addressed based on confirmations from their corresponding embassies.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah emphasised that such repatriations would be done after it has been established that foreigners in question are indeed residents and citizens of their various home countries.

The United States of America and the United Kingdom repatriated some of their nationals from Ghana in March.

We thank the Ghanaian authorities and in particular @NAkufoAddo for making this possible. Cooperation throughout the preparation process was exceptional.
We also thank our European colleagues for working together with us.
A great example of EU solidarity!
