‘I nearly rejected Kwasi Appiah’s call- Samuel Owusu opens up on first Black Stars call up

Ghana winger Samuel Owusu says he ‘nearly rejected’ former coach James Kwesi Appiah’s call because he normally does not pick calls from unknown numbers.

The Saudi based player revealed that he had a strange feeling when that particular call came in, so he hurriedly picked up and it was the national team coach.

Kwesi Appiah called to inform him of his maiden invitation, when he was then a player of Serbian side Cuckaricki.

“On thing about me, I don’t pick unknown calls. One day a number started calling. It was a Ghana number. Then something touched me to pick it. I finally did and the person was coach Kwasi Appiah inviting me to the national team. But I nearly rejected the call,” he said.

Owusu has since not looked back and was a member of the Black Stars team at the Nations Cup in Egypt last summer. He has eight caps for the senior national team.

The 24-year old made a mouthwatering move to Saudi Arabia to join Al Fayha after Africa Cup of Nations tornament.
