I want to retire – Eric Bekoe

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko goal monger, Eric Bekoe has firmly stated that he wants to retire from professional football but a session of Ghanaians are convincing him not to hang his boots.

Speaking to Television CK’s Jeffries Kwabena Sintim-Koree on YouTube, he said, “I want to retire but people are still saying I still have the strength and look young to play actively” he told.

According to Bekoe, he will decide his future after the coronavirus pandemic is over.

“I’m waiting for the deadly coronavirus to be over and see if I can join a club. If not the disease and I’m on the pitch playing you may think I’m cheating the clubs because it seems I have become a better player than previous days”

“You can’t buy experience from the shop but it is being built. If you go through the ranks, you become a perfect person but at the other side of the world, the more experience you become, then they start to retire you”

“I’m too young to retire but in Ghana people will start tagging you as old. When you go to Egypt now, some of my teammates are still playing there. You can talk about Samuel Nkoom, Harrison Afful, Nii Adjei and others who were my teammates at Kotoko are still playing” he added.

Bekoe became the fans favourite player during his stint with the Porcupine Warriors in 2008.

He scored 42 goals in 48 matches for the Kumasi based club and was part of the squad that won the Ghana Premier League in 2008 and went to the group stages in Africa.
