I won’t pay ¢10,000 cost Supreme Court slapped on me – Akua Donkor

Leader of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor says she will not pay the 10,000-cedi cost awarded against her by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court in dismissing Akua Donkor’s suit against President Nana Akufo-Addo and vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on November 27 asked the politician-cum-farmer to pay 10,00 cedis as cost.

Akua Donkor had asked the Supreme Court to order the President and the Vice President to step down because their names have were mentioned in acts of corruption in the Anas Aremeyaw Anas investigative piece on the Ghana Football Association.

But the Court in held application filed by Akua Donkor in 2018 lacked substance and same constituted an abuse of the court process. Also, the court took the view that the GFP leader lacked merit.

Commenting on the ruling on Onua FM, Madam Akua Donkor said she disagreed with the ruling, for which reason she will not pay the cost against her.

She contended that paying the 10,000-cedi cost will mean she accepts the ruling by the Supreme Court.

“If I pay the amount, it means I have accepted the ruling. I don’t accept the ruling so I will not pay,” she stated in Twi.

Madam Akua Donkor expressed concern about the processes leading up to the ruling, alleging her human rights have been violated.

She claimed she had no knowledge whatsoever that the case had been fixed for November 27 for ruling.

According to her, the case was last fixed for November 13 but when they went to court, Judicial Service Staff were on strike at the time hence it could not be called.

Also, she said no adjourned date was announced or given to her until last Wednesday when she read in the news that the case has been dismissed and a cost of 10,000 cedis has been awarded against her.

This development, she said, is a clear breach of her human rights, and will thus seek redress at the International Court of Justice.

“I am preparing my documents now to go to the International Court,” she told Bright Asempa, host of Yen Sempa.
