Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur has revealed that she will be “rooting for Portugal” at the ongoing 2024 European Championships currently being held in Germany.
The two-time Wimbledon finalist opted against continuing her quarter-final match against Coco Gauff at the Berlin Open.
The 29-year-old had problems with breathing during the match and will now be hoping to be fit in time for Wimbledon.
Before her quarter-final clash, Jabeur declared her support for Portugal at the 2024 Euros.
“Everyone knows that I’m a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, so I’m rooting a bit for Portugal. I also like England and Italy, and since I’m in Germany, I’ll be rooting for Germany too,” she told flashscore in an exclusive interview.
“I try to watch and enjoy the games as much as I can. When Turkey won (against Georgia), it was like they’d won the Euro here, everyone went crazy. And Turkey’s flag resembles Tunisia’s, so when they’re winning I pretend it’s Tunisia,” she added.
Portugal have already qualified for the round of 16 stage with one more group game to play and will top Group F regardless of the results on matchday three.
Roberto Martinez’s men will be aiming to win the Euros for a second time after lifting the trophy back in 2016.
