Import duty cut: Checkout goods under benchmark value

There is seeming confusion over the reduction in the benchmark values for all imports announced by the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

A whopping 50% has been slashed on import duties except for vehicles which would be reduced by 30%.

The move, which took effect from Thursday April 4, 2019, is to decrease smuggling and enhance Ghana’s competitiveness.

But, importers and agents are at their wits end as to which goods fall under the benchmark:

Below is the list:

  • Canned tomatoes
  • Vegetable cooking oil
  • Frozen poultry products
  • Frozen beef
  • Biscuits
  • Soap
  • Candies
  • Fruit juice
  • Rice
  • Sugar
  • Sardine
  • Frozen fish
  • Sandals
  • Frozen meat
  • Magarine
  • Bond paper
  • Diapers
  • Aluminum product
  • Custard
  • Float glass
  • PVC Ceiling panels
  • Energy saving bulbs
  • Car batteries
  • Engine oil
  • Floor tiles
  • Water closet
