National Communication Officer for the largest opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC], Sammy Gyamfi, has said Madam Jean Mensa cannot rescind her decision over the compilation of a new voters’ register just because it was a contract she signed with President Akufo-Addo before her appointment as Electoral Commission Chairperson.
“Indeed, the compilation of a new voters’ register for the up-coming general elections was a promise Jean Mensa made to the President before her position was granted her; therefore she needs to fulfill her promise . . . or she faces the consequences it comes with,” he alleged.
According to Sammy Gyamfi it is never true that members of the NDC dislike Jean Mensa as the Electoral Commission Chairperson.
In an interview with UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ political discussion segment, he vividly stated that “Ghana’s current voters’ register is one of the cleanest and most credible the country has ever had in its history and at large in the world”.
Making reference to the planned demonstration by the opposition parties who are against the compilation of a new voters’ register, Sammy Gyamfi indicated the turnout with respect to the demonstration held in Tamale makes him understand that their struggles for the best will not be in vain.
He added that “this should as well be a wake-up call to Jean Mensa to decide on doing that which is right for the peace of the nation and respect proper stakeholder meetings, which will make her office credible”.
The National Democratic Congress and five other political parties on Saturday organised a demonstration in Tamale to express their displeasure over EC’s decision to compile a new voters’ register for the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
