Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 election, made a powerful entry into Agona Swedru as part of his three-day campaign tour of the Central Region.
He was hosted by the Agona West Parliamentary Candidate, Mrs. Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, also known as “Obaanaaa,” at the town’s bustling main lorry station.
Defying heavy rains and a power outage, a large crowd of supporters, sympathizers, and party members gathered to welcome Mahama with a vibrant show of support.
The former President acknowledged the dedication of the crowd in his speech, commending their resilience in the face of the elements.
Addressing the energized supporters, Mahama expressed deep concern over Ghana’s economic challenges, highlighting the impact of rising living costs on the everyday lives of citizens. He underscored how soaring food and fuel prices, along with a record-high debt-to-GDP ratio, have created financial hardships for Ghanaians.
He asserted that the current government’s economic policies have failed to provide relief, leaving many feeling desperate and frustrated.
“The cost of living has reached unprecedented levels, with the prices of essential items and fuel continuing to climb. Our economy is being mishandled, and the government appears unable to find solutions to this crisis,” Mahama stated.
Mahama further pointed out that ongoing power outages have only compounded the nation’s problems. He noted that Ghana had achieved stable electricity under his administration, yet recent failures to maintain infrastructure investments have led to widespread power cuts. This instability, he said, has disrupted the lives of Ghanaians and strained businesses.
In line with his campaign’s “Reset Ghana” agenda, Mahama promised to prioritize economic stability and job creation if elected. As part of this vision, he pledged to construct an ultra-modern market for Agona West, which would serve as a central hub for economic activity and job opportunities. This development, he emphasized, would be a practical step toward revitalizing the local economy and fostering prosperity.
As he continues his campaign tour, Mahama remains committed to addressing the pressing economic and social issues faced by Ghanaians. His vision for a stable, thriving Ghana resonates with citizens, as he outlines his plans to restore accountability, improve living standards, and create a sustainable future.
