The Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, says former president John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have the patent right for incompetence in governance.
According to him the sheer incompetence with which the Mahama led NDC administration run Ghana’s economy in eight years of office sent the country into the ground and brought the entire nation to its knees.
The Member of Parliament for Suame said this when he was responding to accusations by the Minority in parliament that finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta has woefully managed the country’s economy.
Speaking on the Kumasi based OTEC 102.9 FM’s morning show “Nyansapo “, on Friday December, 9,2022,Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu said the censure motion filed by the Minority to oust the Finance Minister has no grounds, adding that the minority’s move only seek to embarrass the finance minister.
Minority’s Accusations
Among other reasons that triggered the minority to push for a censure motion against the finance minister, includes
Despicable conflict of interest ensuring that Mr Ofori-Atta directly benefited from Ghana’s economic woes as his companies received commissions and other unethical contractual advantages, particularly from Ghana’s debt overhang is among the basis upon which the Minority cited its vote of censure.
They also cited Unconstitutional withdrawals from the Consolidated Fund in contravention of Article 178 of the 1992 Constitution, supposedly for the construction of the National Cathedral.
According to the Caucus, illegal payment of oil revenues into offshore accounts, in violation of Article 176 of the 1992 Constitution was another ground for the censure.
“Deliberate and dishonest misreporting of economic data to Parliament, Fiscal recklessness led to the crash of the Ghana Cedi.
“Alarming incompetence and frightening ineptitude resulted in the collapse of the Ghanaian economy and an excruciating cost of living crisis,” the censure stated
Meanwhile Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said the censure motion by the Minority is a means for the National Democratic Congress legislators to score cheap political points, after destroying the very foundation of Ghana’s economy.
