K.P. Boateng calls for “George Floyd Day”

Ghana International Kevin-Prince Boateng has suggested that Black players stay off work on George Floyd’s birthday to commemorate the brutal killing of the African American.

The 33-year-old made the suggestion in a powerful anti-racism message as he renewed his pledge against racism.

George Floyd, a 46-year-old black American, died after a white policeman, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 25, sparking nationwide protests in the US and across the world.

“I wanna get a day where no black player goes to work. We could all stick together. Birthday of George Floyd. Why not? We start something like Martin Luther King Day, Black History Month, let’s make it George Floyd Day, where no Black Person goes to training”, he told SKYSPORTS.

The former AC Milan player has been an outspoken anti-racism campaigner after he suffered racist abuse during a friendly match in Italy in 2013 and walked off in protest.
