Kayayei, also known in English as Head Potters, have lauded the government’s plan to build a 600-bed hostel facility for them.
A woman who described herself as a pioneer of Kayayei, Hajia Adiza, has said the news of the hostel was greeted with spontaneous joy from the head potters.
She told Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem host Captain Smart the bad conditions under which her colleagues operated has been a worry hence building a hostel for them comes as a big relief.
She commended President Akufo-Addo for fulfilling his promise to the head potters.
“When I heard the Finance Minister was about to read the budget, I was very worried because all I wanted to hear was that our head potters were going to get a place to sleep so I was very happy when I heard about the 600-bed for them,” she said.
According to her, President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to ending the plight of Kayayei in the coming year is on course.
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, told on Wednesday, that the construction of the 600-bed hostel will begin in December 2019 at Agbogbloshie, a suburb of Accra.
