Kejetia flooding: Management sets up seven member facts finding committee

The Management of the New Kejetia Market in the Kumasi Metropolis has set up a seven member facts finding committee to probe circumstances leading to the pipe burst at the facility which caused massive destruction of wares.

The committee which is made up of four executives from the identifiable groups and three members from the Kumasi City Market Limited, managers of the facility has been given two weeks to complete their work.

 

The committee has been tasked to meet maintenance team at the market and all traders who were affected in the pipe burst disaster and come out with the necessary recommendations.

 

The incident which happened on Sunday, May 1, 2022, affected over 36 shops wrecked items worth millions of cedis

 

Speaking to OTEC News Kwame Agyenim Boateng, a Member of the committee, Mr Frank Antwi, who doubles as the Chairman of the Concerned Central Market Traders Association said the Committee begun thier work on Thursday May 5, 2022.

 

“We have been charged to assess the extent of damage and profer possible solutions and any other information that will be found useful”, he said.

 

“I believe strongly that the Committee’s report will help prevent any future disaster of such kind in the market “. He added.

 

 

 

BACKGROUND

 

Traders on Sunday, May, 1, 2022,  had their goods destroyed after one of the pipes at the ceiling of the Kejetia market burst

 

Goods destroyed by the accident the traders noted  worth millions of Cedis.

 

It was discovered that that people who deal in electrical appliances were the most affected persons in this unfortunate incident.

 

 

While recounting their losses, these affected traders called on government to come to their rescue by compensating them.

 

The traders averred that they have suffered similar situations in the Kejetia market, hence, the need for authorities to look into the matter to prevent future mishappenings.
