A Kenyan Member of Parliament has been arrested for holding a public gathering contrary to COVID-19 guidelines.
MP Charles Ong’ondo Were was arrested on Tuesday evening and detained at a police station.
The MP was said to have been chairing a meeting at his village home when members of the public expressed concern and reported to the police.
Videos of people dancing during the meeting disregarding social distancing were shared online.
His arrest comes hours after a senator pleaded guilty to violating curfew orders and was fined by a court.
The senator resigned from a Covid-19 committee and apologised for violating curfew orders.
Mr Were will be taken to court on Wednesday morning.
The local police boss confirmed the arrest to the Standard newspaper.
