Kenyan woman arrested after mistakenly spiking her own drink

Authorities in Kenya apprehended a 31-year-old woman after she allegedly spiked drinks being consumed by three male county government officials.

According to Nairobi News, the suspect, identified as Leah Mwenja, and her two other female friends, were spending time with the male officials at a restaurant when they spiked their drinks.

And though Mwenja’s friends ultimately made away with stolen items belonging to the officials, the female suspect was left behind as she mistakenly consumed a spiked drink. Mwenja and the male officials were found unconscious in an apartment.

The incident occurred in the Kenyan city of Mombasa. And police said the officials were in the coastal city on a working holiday. The men were said to have come into contact with the women while they were drinking at a restaurant.

“Wowed by their stunning looks, they beckoned the ladies to join their table. Little did they know that they were inviting a pack of wolves whose mission wasn’t having fun, but hunting for easy prey to steal from,” a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said.

“As the soothing ocean breeze swept across the bar that overlooks the Indian Ocean, the county officials bought as many rounds of booze popularly known as ‘kuchafua meza’ and they made merry up-to the devil’s hour.”

Police said the officials later organized more drinks and took the women to their hotel rooms around 3 am. The men and Mwenja were, however, later found unconscious.

Authorities said Mwenja’s accomplices left the hotel with laptops, mobile phones, and other valuables they had stolen from the officials while they were unconscious.

The suspect and the male officials were subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment. Investigators are also questioning Mwenja on the whereabouts of her accomplices in an effort to retrieve the stolen items.
