Koforidua: 15 babies born on Christmas Day

Fifteen babies were born on Christmas Day at the Eastern regional hospital in Koforidua.

Many of the mothers who delivered went through caesarean delivery due to varied medical complications which inhibited vaginal delivery thus threatened the lives of the babies and their mothers.

“On the 25th of December, we had a total of 15 new born babies being delivered out of which 11 are males and 4 females. It was more of a busy day on the 25th because there were a lot of surgeries than the normal deliveries. We anticipated that it will be a very smooth and quiet day for us but it wasn’t like what we normally experience ” Kathlyn Nyassingbe – Midwifery Officer also acting Deputy Matron at Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the ERHK told Starr News.

He said this when Telecom giant MTN Ghana through MTN Ghana Foundation donated Christmas hampers to newly born babies on Christmas day.

“It is something we look out for every year because we know that every Christmas day they do this for us, they come to the aid of the newly born babies and their mothers. We very grateful this time around for their kind gesture,” she said.

The MTN delegation made similar donations at St.Joseph ,and SDA Hospitals in Koforidua.

“This is a real surprise. Nobody told us MTN will come here. We are happy.This is like the wise men in the Bible. I am happy to give birth on December 25th this donation has made complete “Matilda Agyemang,a beneficiary nursing mother said.

Mohammed Haruna Yamba -Eastern Regional Mobile Money Implementation Controller, MTN Ghana, said the exercise is annual corporate social responsibility held nationwide to appreciate mothers who deliver on Christmas day.

“In all we’ve been able to successfully donated 20 hampers to 20 newborn babies which is a very good thing to also give back to the community, this is being done to appreciate our customers loyalty to the business and also would like to thank the media for also supporting us cover this wonderful donations to the public and the Hospitals also for their assistance”.

The MTN Ghana Foundation since its establishment in 2007, has implemented over 150 projects in key areas of Health, Education and Economic Empowerment in communities across the country.
The foundation has been phenomenal in supporting the Government of Ghana contain COVID-19 in the country. Key among such interventions are the donation of GHS 5 million worth of medical supplies, PPE and other essentials to National COVID Trust Fund, the distribution of 85,000 face masks to various hospitals and clinics nationwide and the donation of digital equipment to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

“health is one the key areas we take into consideration to support the needy. As we all know with good health we have good and healthy customers and we are proud to support the health of our customers and the country as a whole” Mohammed Haruna Yamba said.
