Kpone residents demonstrate over demolition of properties

Hundreds of residents of Santeo COCOBOD, a surbub of the Kpone Katamanso District of the Greater Accra Region, have demonstrated over the demolition of their properties by some persons with the aid of armed security personnel.

The demolition exercise, which is reported to have been carried out by an estate developer claiming ownership to the over 200,000 acres of developed land at Santeo COCOBOD, a suburb of the Kpone Katamanso District, has prompted tension in the area.

The affected residents took to the streets on Friday to drum home their concerns.

They claim the estate developer in the company of over 50 armed security personnel stormed the area on Friday dawn to demolish their buildings that of a 66- year- old pensioner, Michael Ahiatepker who was preparing to move into the house close of this month.

The NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the area, Hopeson Adorye, who managed to calm down tempers, described the demolition exercise as an act to tarnish the image of the government, calling on the IGP to act swiftly on the matter.

Meanwhile, a purported court order used by the said developer to demolish the buildings, turned out to be that of a court summons which was even issued in 2019.

Also, a notice posted on some of the buildings, directing property owners to call the said developer for renegotiation, turned out to be fake.

The aggrieved residents are, therefore, demanding the immediate arrest of perpetrators of the act.
