Kumasi Airport maintenance hub to create 400,000 jobs

The proposed Kumasi International airport will have an airplane maintenance hub that will serve airplanes from over 35 countries as well as create jobs for about 400,000 Ghanaians, the project leader has said.

The hub will allow planes to fix mechanical faults, maintain avionics instruments and re-fuel amongst others.

The project is in partnership with aeroplane manufacturing company Boeing. This according to planners will give engineers from top Ghanaian Universities the opportunity to prove their worth, thereby providing them with a livelihood

Speaking to Starrfm.com.gh about the project, Dr Thomas Mensah, fibre optics inventor, who is spearheading the project revealed that the project is private sector-led.

He said “it’s also a private sector-led. We are leading it, but we’ve partnered with Boeing to do the training and we raised half a billion for that project. Plans are going very well and during my book launch I will show this.”

“We will create 400,000 jobs at the airport. We need jobs in this country, for the youth, for everybody. I don’t want anybody the regulators or anybody holding this back because it’s holding the whole country,” he added.

Dr Mensah will later this month launch his highly anticipated book titled ‘the right stuff comes in black too.” The book will cover all his intended projects including the hanging train, high-speed train, and a host of others.

World influencers including Aliko Dangote, Olusegun Obasanjo, Tony Elumelu, J.J Rawlings, etc are expected at the launch which will be held in Kumasi.

He said “the book features J.J. Rawlings, Nana Addo and some other African presidents. It contains not just my life as an inventor, but also how Ghana and Africa should move.”
