Laryea Kingston missing from Ghana U-17 camp

Laryea Kingston absent from Ghana U-17 camp after he announced his resignation after after failing to qualify the team for the CAF U17, states the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of the WAFU B U-17 Championship third-place playoff against Nigeria on Tuesday.

The GFA suggests it does not know the whereabouts of Laryea Kingston, who announced he would step down after the tournament following Saturday’s shock defeat to Burkina Faso in the semi-finals.

The Black Starlets failed to qualify for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and also the World Cup.

Qualification to the AFCON was the team’s ultimate goal, and Kingston expressed disappointment at the press conference before announcing he had decided to resign.

“After we came back from Russia, that’s when I decided that whether we win and qualify or not, I’m moving on. After this tournament, I’m resigning as the U-17 coach. I have made that decision already,” he said.

The GFA has accepted the decision but is surprised by the actions of Kingston. According to the FA, Kingston got off the team bus while the team was going to the hotel.

He failed to attend the team’s evening meeting with the management committee and has since not reported at the team hotel.

The Ghana Football Association have expressed disappointment in Kingston’s decision to resign, citing the need for unity and support during challenging times. The team is focused on regrouping and performing well in the upcoming match against Nigeria.

They have asked the current assistant coaches will take charge of the team for the third-place playoff against Nigeria.
