Libya is set to consolidate relations with Algeria

Prime Minister of Libya, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah has emphasized the need to strengthen security cooperation and combat cross-border crime and terrorism with Algeria.

Dbeibah expressed during a meeting with Algerian President Abdel Majid Tebboune Libya’s desire to consolidate and develop relations with its neighbouring country in various fields and at all levels, to achieve comprehensive development, and to counter adverse interference in the region.

The PM thanked Algeria for embracing the Libyan-Algerian Forum, aimed at boosting trade exchange between the two countries and promoting the private sector to contribute to diversifying sources of income.

A statement by the PM media office said that Dbeibah also thanked the Algerian government for the team it dispatched to support the public electricity company in maintaining and operating the emergency station in Khums, reiterating the need to strengthen this form of cooperation by activating the agreements in the energy field, in particular, the electric grid.

Meanwhile, the Algerian President affirmed his country’s constant support for national reconciliation in Libya.

Tebboune expressed Algeria’s willingness to open airspace and resume flights to and from Libya, as well as to open land borders for trade exchange and in front of travellers after assessing the security situation.

He also indicated the possibility of initiating collaboration in several other fields, including supporting Libya’s health system with Algerian cadres and providing technical assistance for the Ministry of Interior in its plan to secure the upcoming election.

In a related context, the two sides agreed on the return of Sonatrach company to resume work in the Ghadames Basin.
