Lockdown: Sex workers, clients arrested

No fewer than 18 commercial sex workers have been arrested in Ondo State for flouting the state government’s lockdown order put in place to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the state.

Doyin Odebowale, Chairman of the Special Taskforce on COVID-19 Enforcement and  Compliance in the state, who confirmed this to newsmen, said the sex workers alongside five of their clients were arrested at a brothel in Shasha, an area in Akure, the state capital.

Odebowale revealed that the sex workers have been quarantined and their blood samples collected for tests in order to determine their health status.

“They have been together and they are in a high rise situation, so we have to invite our health expert through the state epidemiologist to ascertain their health status,” he said

The Ondo State epidemiologist, Dr Steven Fagbemi, also confirmed that the blood samples of the arrested sex workers had been taken for test by health officials.
