Former IBF Lightweight champion Richard Commey has vowed to fight his way back to the top and reclaim his title.
In December 2019, Commey was handed a heavy defeat by Teofimo Lopez.
The Ghanaian boxer was floored twice as Lopez cut short what was billed to be a long night with a round 2 knockout.
The defeat did not only leave Commey and Ghana with no world title but also dashed the boxer’s hope of a unification fight with Vasyl Lomachenko.
Commey has for the first time acceded to committing a blunder in the bout.
He told Real Ghana Boxing that his decision to get back on his feet quickly after being canvassed caused his defeat.
The boxer concedes that he should have spent some seconds and regained his strength before stepping up.
“We all know the theory in boxing that says when you get caught, you need to be patient and recover fully. I did not follow that and it was my mistake.
“We all went for a punch and I got caught because he was quicker than I was. I should have been patient but we all learn and the big boys in boxing fall and come back stronger and that is what I am going to do”.
Lopez meanwhile is open to a second bout with Commey.
He told The Athletic recently that he will fight the Ghanaian again if the conditions are right.
“Wishing him (Commey) nothing but the best and if the fight potentially comes up again, then I don’t see why not to have a rematch.”
