Mahama assures massive road projects in Bono East under ‘Big Push’ Agenda

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Bono East Region is set to benefit from a major wave of road construction projects aimed at improving transportation, boosting economic activity, and curbing highway robberies.

According to the President, the upcoming road projects fall under his government’s ambitious ‘Big Push’ infrastructure agenda, which is currently undergoing final Cabinet approval. H.E. John Dramani Mahama made this statement during a community engagement at the Kintampo College of Health and Well-Being as part of his thank-you tour on Wednesday, 29th May 2025.

“Infrastructure is central to development and the Bono East region will not be left behind. Under the Big Push agenda, Cabinet is finalizing approval for major infrastructure projects, many of which are earmarked for this region.” He stated

He noted that the deplorable state of roads across the country has become a national concern, and as a result, his administration is prioritizing road construction in the first year of the Big Push program. He further outlined key roads in the Bono East Region that are set to receive urgent attention.

“I want to say that under the Big Push, we are prioritizing roads because the state of our roads is in a very deplorable condition, so for the first year, the Minister of Finance has provided almost GHc15 billion to be invested in improving our road network across the whole of the country.

“As I said, we focusing particularly on roads that are critical for agriculture, trade, and access to essential services. In the Bono East region, the roads that we are targeting include the Asuyei-Mesidan Road, the Ofuman-Wenchi Road, the Sunyani – Nkranza Road, the Tehchiman – Wenchi Road, the Atebubu-Kajeji Road and then also to complete the Kintampo to Prang road, the Ejura-Attebugu road and Bosunya-Atebubu road

“There are other roads that we’ll also be working on that are not yet included on this list. These roads, once completed, will open up the region, improve market access for farmers and reduce travel time and transport costs.” He stated.

President Mahama also revealed that preliminary work has begun on a proposed 54-kilometer outer ring road around Techiman. The Department of Urban Roads has already commenced engineering surveys and design work to pave the way for full-scale construction.

“A state work has begun to open up the proposed 54-kilometer outer ring road. The Department of Urban Roads has initiated engineering surveys and design works to prepare the way for full construction to begin. This project will decongest the central business district of Tichiman and enhance road safety for residents and travelers alike.” He said.
