Malian couple with world-record nine babies return home from Morocco

Malian nonuplets who were born in Morocco last year have returned to their home country after over a year in the North African country.

A BBC Africa LIVE report said the parents and their nine babies arrived at the airport in the capital, Bamako, in the small hours of Tuesday (December 13) and were welcomed by Health Minister Diéminatou Sangaré.

They had been living in a flat with medical support in the Moroccan city of Casablanca since leaving the Ain Borja clinic, where the babies were born on 4 May 2021, the report added.

Mother Halima Cissé’s pregnancy become a matter of interest in Mali at a time when medical tests showed that she was set to have seven babies.

The government of then president Ibrahim Boubakar Keita flew her to Morocco, where further tests showed that she was carrying nine babies.

A team of 10 doctors and 25 paramedics assisted the delivery of all nine premature babies through caesarean section. They comprise five girls and four boys.

Father Kader who flew to Morocco on their first anniversary said that he was happy to reunite with his family.

“It is the wish of every father to be surrounded with his entire family. I am very happy,” he said.

“We are here in Morocco. We have planned a small party, a simple one… We will remember this great moment we are going to experience inshallah,” Arby added.
