Man kills 70-year-old father

A 37-year-old man in Anambra State, Chigorom Ezeofor, has allegedly hacked his father to death.

Punch gathered that the incident occurred in Umuchiana village, in the local government area of the state.

A family source told our correspondent that the suspect had been exhibiting some unusual behaviour before the incident on Saturday.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Haruna Mohammed, said the suspect had been arrested, adding that he was mentally ill.

Mohammed said: “Today (Saturday), about 9:45 am, one Mr Timothy Ezeofor of Umuezegoro Umuchiana village, reported at Aguata Police Station that about 8:00 am of same day, his elder brother Godwin Ezeofor, aged 70 years was allegedly murdered by his son, one Chigorom Ezeofor aged about 37 years, using an axe”.

“Following the report, operatives attached to the Aguata Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ayeni Oluwadare, mobilised to the scene. The victim was photographed and rushed to the hospital where he was certified dead by a medical doctor and corpse deposited at the mortuary for autopsy. The suspect who ‘looks insane’ was arrested and taken to the station for discreet investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.”
