Manhyia Palace Museum closed down

Manhyia Palace Museum in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region, has been temporary closed down from the public for upgrading and renovation works to take place.

 

The Manhyia Palace Museum, located inside the Manhyia Palace, the seat of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will be closed from February 1, 2021 to July 31, 2021.

 

The closure, according to the Board of Directors and the Committee Members, was in consultation with the King of Ashanti, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

 

In a press briefing at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, Management Committee member, Prince Agyenim Boateng, said the upgrade will comprise Vitual Tour setup, construction/refurbishment of the building and creation of Cafeteria.

 

He stated that the works are being possible after securing a grant of GHC 3,363,612 from the World Bank in October 2020 from the Ministry of Tourism.

 

According to Mr Agyenim Boateng, the funds will be released in tranches, as set out in the condition of disbursement and the first tranche of GHC 1,045,415.70 has been received for the commencement of the renovation.

 

“In view of the receipt of of the first tranche, the Management Committee in consultation with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, will temporary close Manhyia Palace Museum with effect from February 1, 2021 till the end of July 2021 to pave way for uninterrupted works schedule to complete it on time”, he added.

 

The Gift Shop of the Museum, according to the Management, will however, carry on its activities therefore the public can still patronize its products.
