Menzgold customers arrested again

GhanaWeb can confirm that a number of aggrieved customers of embattled gold dealership firm, Menzgold have yet again been arrested Tuesday, February 11, 2020. after they planned staging a procession to the Jubilee House.

The customers, about 50 in number, were arrested while aboard a VIP bus parked at the Christ the King bus stop, waiting for their leaders who had gone to the presidency to submit a petition.

Director of Operations of the Accra Region Police Command, ACP Kwesi Fori, ordered the arrest saying they had embarked on the journey without permission.

Public Relations Officer of the Accra branch of the Aggrieved Menzgold customers, Fred Forson could not fathom the arrest of his colleagues as he says they had not even alighted from the bus.

Another bus carrying some more customers parked at Kawukudi when they heard about the arrest of their colleagues.

An estimated 200 aggrieved customers were expected to embark on the march today but were denied permission by the Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service after they sought permission for the march.

The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold Ghana wrote to the Command on Thursday, February 6 for permission to march to the presidency on Tuesday, February 11 to present a petition to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Earlier last month, some 92 customers were arrested by the Police after they had embarked on illegal demonstration to the private residence of Nana Appiah Mensah, CEO of Menzgold to demand their locked up cash.
