Minister rejects shoddy work by contractor on Konongo-Praado road

Roads Minister laments poor nature of road constructed by the contractor.

Mr. Amoako Atta warned that government will not tolerate any shoddy job from contractors across the country

President Akufo-Addo declared 2020 as the year of roads in one of his addresses

Ghana’s Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako Atta has ordered a road contractor in the Ashanti Region to redo a road, or else the contract will be reassigned.

Mr. Amoako Atta who was on a working visit to inspect the progress of work in the area bemoaned the shoddy work done on the Konongo-Praaso road in the Ashanti Region.

“This road is badly shaped and, it won’t last long as expected,” the Minister noted.

He stressed that government will not waste resources on poor and shoddy works because the people deserve better.

He also took time to inspect the Anwia Nkwanta-Obuasi stretch which is under construction by the Joshob Construction and later the 20km Obuasi township road by the Justmo Construction.

The Obuasi township road is expected to be completed in March 2022 though work was far advanced.

The Anwia Nkwanta-Obuasi Road has always been in the news for its poor state which according to drivers and passengers, plying the stretch has been stressful.

The Minister was, however, satisfied with the progress of work and lauded the two construction companies, adding that local contractors need capacity building because per his observations he is confident they can take international assignments like any other foreign contractor.

He said his government is ready to support these local contractors by paying their monies on time and also supervise their works regularly to keep them on track.

Parliament recently approved a $150-million loan from the International Development Association (IDA) to finance the development of road infrastructure in the country under the Transport Sector Improvement Project (TSIP).
